Dedicated to the Girl Next Door: Colon Cancer Awareness

Hello fellow beauty nerds!

Today’s post is very special to me.

I’m sure the majority of you are familiar with Sonja from thebeautifullifeofthegirlnextdoor.blogspot.com.

If you aren’t, then I highly advise you check her out.  She’s super talented and her amazing personality shines through in every post.

Recently, Sonja was diagnosed with Colon Cancer (read her post here).

Sonja had gone to the doctor for what she thought would be a minor problem, and instead found out she had stage 4 colon cancer!  Besides the initial shock that moved me to tears, the rest of her post gave me a sense of strength and calm.

Here she is, this beautiful young woman, full of life with so much to live for; just found out she had stage 4 cancer; still remains so positive and so strong.

I felt inspired.  Now, my life has in no way been easy.  I’ve got my share of battles and obstacles, but I have not been faced with something so life-threatening.  It really made me realize that I have been wasting the gifts I have been given in life.  We all have opportunities in front of us, but it is human nature to always want the next best thing.

That’s just it: the opportunity you have in front of you may be the only opportunity. It’s an opportunity. Take it!

I know some of us may have some health issues that we may think are minor, but they should still be checked out because they may turn out to be more vital than we think.

For example, I had been getting severe migraines for a while now.  The ones that cripple you into wearing sunglasses indoors and make you sensitive to sounds, smells, and of course light.  So I went to the doctor, who couldn’t find anything.  They performed MRI’s, EKG testing, etc. and nothing.  I decided I needed to go to the eye doctor.  Turns out I may have glaucoma, or at least have pretty messed up eyeballs.  Once I got my new glasses, my migraines have subsided! I’m still under watch, but at least I can try to prevent myself from going blind.

To quote the lovely Sonja:
Honestly, the more people who get their health checked out because of this makes me feel like this has a reason.  If one person catches something early or even just gets peace of mind finding out that nothing is wrong, that makes it worth it.

So please, go to the doctor.

Because Sonja’s story has touched my heart so deeply, I wanted to create and dedicate this look to her.

This is a look using the blue and white for Colon Cancer awareness.
