Lime Crime: China Doll Palette Review

Here it is!  The highly anticipated Lime Crime China Doll Palette (at least for me)
First and foremost, I would like to begin by saying that this is a review based on my opinion of the product.  I have read about the controversy surrounding Lime Crime, and I will remain neutral with regards to that.

Now on to the palette...

Read full post for my review and swatches!

I received my beautiful "Unicorn Mail" last week, which contained the China Doll palette. Included in the package was a small sample of the Candy Eyed eyeshadow primer- which happens to be my favorite.  So this will be great to just throw in my purse.

When I first saw the palette online, I was really excited about the colors, Fly Dragon Fly in particular because I went on a hunt this winter for a nicely pigmented red.  Believe it or not, it's hard to find!  Most reds I found were more on the orange side, and were very light.

To my [pleasant] surprise, these colors were quite opaque.  What you see is what you get.  I didn't have to pack on a lot of shadow for a good color pay off.

They are very chalky in terms of feel.  Not chalky in a bad way, but think of it like this: when you get chalk on your fingers, it turns them stark white (good color pay off), and it has a soft powdery feel.  That's what I mean by chalky.

All colors are a beautifully matte, with the exception of Goldfish, which is a lovely yellow gold shimmer.

All in all, I am very pleased with the palette.

In terms of packaging: I did like the concept.  The eye shadows are held inside an aluminum tin, and originally came in a gold box that looked like an envelope.

I really wasn't too impressed with the quality of the packaging, although, I thought the concept was super cute.  In my opinion the gold envelope looked a little cheap, as did the tin.

However, I am happy with the palette which is all that I really care about.  Since Lime Crime is a small company, I don't expect their packaging to compare to other huge brand names.

I wanted to give you guys a well-rounded review of a products, so that you can have a pretty good feel for the item before you make a purchase.  So I have created an evaluation scale to be able to show all the components I use to give an overall rating of a product.

I got the idea from several other beauty websites, and it makes it easier to do it this way.

I'll probably only do this for full product reviews such as this China Doll palette review.

Thanks for reading.
Stay lovely :)

I recently got the chinadoll palette too! I love it, but I hate that little plastic insert that the pans are contained in. Feels so cheap and breakable but I understand its probably to keep costs down etc.. :)

Aghh when I saw Ronnie from BowsandCurtseys do a look on this it made me want the palette sooo bad. But it's pretty expensive. You know Sugarpill has a great red. It's Love +

Thanks Geena, I really need to do some shopping on the sugarpill website. I only own Goldilux which I absolutely love.
